Zef’s report
This afternoon we had a 90 minutes Zoom talk with eight professors, all being men. Jochen was leading the POP-discussion.
To start with AESOP: Claudia Yamu from Groningen and Jochen from Utrecht will be the new Council representatives from the Netherlands.
We had an exchange about Codiv 19 and the impact it has on our work. Their eagerness to learn more about our Amsterdam checklist on possible concerns of students, best practices and recommendations made them ask me for a copy. Is it alright if I send them?
The biggest problem seems to be international masterstudents going back to their home country withouten finishing their thesis. Also design studios have been cancelled. One Chinese student studying in Utrecht has Corona.
Doing research in these circumstances is not easy for most of us.
For writing papers, thesisses or books though It is an excellent time for many. Jos Arts shared his experience that many PhDs are finishing their papers in less than due time (is that English?).
Jochen raised a discussion about bachelor programs in Dutch. In Utrecht they skipped English and returned to the Dutch language. As a German he told us he is sad about that.
Only in Groningen all the bachelor programms are still in English. Delft is bilingual. No discussion in Groningen they keep it English. Jochen chose for the Netherlands because of its openness to international influences.
Next Pop meeting on Tuesday 17 November 2020 in Utrecht, 17-19 u. Tuna will represent us then?
